It's funny, some reviews I read make it sound like the writer bought this lantern hoping it could also fight off a bear or serve as a valued weapon in the zombie apocalypse (This lantern would probably come in extremely handy during the apocalypse, actually) HA.. Let me offer a simplistic review for anyone interested in this product. I hike and camp often and have flash lights buckled to me, head lamps, etc. so this is no primary light source for me. I simply wanted an affordable lantern that I could set down on a table or hang somewhere that provided quality lighting. This lantern will do all of that for you, and for a great price. You DO need to buy 4 D batteries (NOT included) if you don't already have some. So add 5 or 6 more dollars to your purchase and you're looking at a great deal, in my opinion. You don't get to pick the color, which is a bummer. Quite frankly, I didn't care. Mine came in a midnight blue and I'm perfectly content with that. If the color is a deal breaker you could easily spray paint (or tape) any preferred color over the base and top pieces and it would look fine. The overall size is that of a glass pitcher or large beer mug, and it lights up the area nicely. The handle is plastic and relatively cheap, but as long as you don't play football or chop down trees with your lantern, it will hold up (mine has) just fine. The compass on the top of the lantern is relatively inefficient (to put it nicely) it works sometimes, other times it's motionless. I do hope anyone reading this with the intent to buy this lantern, isn't buying it for the compass. If you want a real compass, go buy a real compass. This lantern is perfect for camping, hiking, adults, and kids, and it does it's job extremely well. I couldn't find a better quality lantern for a better price on Amazon, and would highly recommend this to anyone based on those regards.

Portable 24 LED Super Bright Deluxe Camping Lantern with Compass (colors vary)
This is a good lantern for the price. In my estimation, if they had put a strong metal handle on it instead of a flimsy plastic one, this lantern would be just about perfect for walking my dog at night, camping trips, and other activities that require lighting. Due to the fact that it runs on 3 each D cell batteries and LED lights use very little power to light them, one should be able to get many hours of usage before needing to replace the batteries.

I ordered this lantern from Amazon hoping to get it within 4 or 5 days. It arrived the day after I ordered it. When the package was handed to me it was very light so I thought Great, here's another cheap piece of junk. but in this case lighter was better. It is made really well and not easy to break. It is very bright and being led the bulbs should last very long time. I will be buying a couple more so that I will have enough to spread through out the house during black outs. My hat is off to the folks at Amazon, Good Work.
